When a women goes into have a pap smear, they test for abnormal cells. If they find abnormal cells then they test for HPV, if they find HPV, they run further tests for cancer, otherwise they do not. Thus getting the vaccine will greatly reduce your odds of being tested for HPV or cancer and not knowing is half the battle.
